HNLC threat to evict all Nepali’s taken Seriously by Meghalaya Police

East Khasi SP M Kharkhrang said that the HNLC threat against a particular community asking it to quit Khasi and Jaintia hills is being viewed seriously and investigation is on to ascertain the motive behind it. “We are not taking such threats from any groups lightly and necessary action will be taken to ensure safety of all communities residing in the region,” Kharkhrang told reporters on Thursday. The Garo National Liberation Army has shown its disillusionment  towards the statement of Union Home Ministry Director in charge North East, JPN Singh, ruling out discussions on the creation of a separate Garoland. Shillong : Thirteen pro Inner Line Permit (ILP) NGOs demanding its implementation in the state has asked the state government to convene a meeting to further discuss the influx issue. “The state government should not delay any more but convene the meeting with NGOs to discuss on the ” Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) president Joe Marwein said. Tripura’s Palatana power plant faces crisis in gas supplies

Debraj Deb Agartala, April 11: The ONGC Tripura Power Company powered Palatana power project is facing crisis relating to gas supplies ahead of commercial production in the plant’s second unit, a source inside the corporation said here today. The ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC) on March 16 earlier this year started pre-commissioning check-up of second turbine of the 726.6 MW thermal power plant. The plant is powered by two turbines each capable of generating 326 MW power. Shillong : Meghalaya’s powerful pressure groups – the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) – Friday opposed inclusion of Tibetan refugees in the electoral rolls of the northeastern state. “We strongly oppose the Election Commission’s directive and we will never allow Tibetans or any doubtful citizens to enrol themselves in the state’s electoral rolls,” KSU president Daniel Khyriem told IANS. The Election Commission has directed all states to include children of Tibetan refugees in the electoral rolls following the Karnataka High Court August 2013 order granting Indian citizenship to Tibetan refugees. A herd of elephants obstructed the sector officer near Dalu in South West Garo hills district while he was moving from one polling station to another monitoring the election process during the voting for in the Lok Sabha elections on Wednesday. Meghalaya records 53 percent polling

Shillong,: Meghalaya Wednesday recorded 53 percent polling till 3 p.m., as voting took place at a brisk pace with people turning out in huge numbers to elect two Lok Sabha members from the state. “Around 53 percent of the 15,67,241 electors voted till 3 p.m. in Shillong and Tura,” State Chief Electoral Officer Prashant Naik said. The voting percentage is expected to be around 65 percent at the end of voting 5 p.m. “I am hopeful we are going to cross the 64 percent voter turnout recorded in the 2009 election,” Naik said.
